PixCell-Elk#2

by Kohei Nawa

This was one of my favorite pieces I looked at on the GoMA site. The elk sculpture by Nawa had such a beautiful but distorted feel to it. It represented our society and how we try to cover and beautify everything; how we try to place everything into a glass case. In this piece Nawa tries to change our perception on what is real and what is not, and shows how our society does this. The Elk represents nature and what is real. The bubbles and layers distort the reality and distort what once seemed seemed to exist but has now change to something altogether out of the ordinary and misleading. I especially like this piece because of how Nawa portrays society. His art represents its meaning clearly. The Pixcell-Elk#2 is an amazing sculpture of our modern day society.
