These amazing striped icebergs are formed by layers of snow that react to different conditions. Blue stripes are created when a crevice in the ice sheet fills up with meltwater and freezes so quickly that no bubbles form. when an iceberg falls into the sea, a layer of salty seawater can freeze to the underside.
If this is rich in algae, it can form a green stripe. Brown, black and yellow lines are caused by sediment, picked up when the ice sheet grinds downhill towards the sea. These icebergs are freezing so quickly because Antarctica is only getting colder as the years go by.
If Global Warming is such a big problem, why is the earth getting colder?
Can Al Gore explain that?
Take a look at these
How beautiful is that???
Antarctica is at its coldest in decades.
When water comes in contact with air, it will freeze instantly.
Check out these pictures where the waves are frozen in mid air
HUGE waves

Amazing right? I love these, so beautiful the way the ice freezes.

Exquisite images Briana! I'm not sure about their use for science but they certainly are beautiful. The quality of that BLUE! ... no wonder you were attracted to them.
I'm sure there will be many more pieces in GOMA that you connect with on Thursday ... wait for the tree piece!
